RANGE ROVER SPORT UPDATED WITH NEW TECH

Land Rover has updated the Range Rover Sport by giving it new mechanicals in order to keep it fresh in the face of ever-increasing competition. On top of a more powerful turbo diesel, the cars will also get a new, more fuel-friendly gearbox, as well as additional exterior colours. We hope to see these changes in South Africa before the year is up.

Engine updates are minimal, with the super diesel getting more vuma from the same capacity. The 3.0-litre V6 SD has been lifted ever so slightly, from 180kW to 188kW. The main thing we reckon, is the new 8-speed automatic gearbox that’s been installed. It apparently lowers C02 emissions from 243 g/km down to 230 g/km, and claimed average fuel consumption is now 8.8 litres per 100km.

The car is also fitted with a Drive Select rotary gear lever, same as what the Discovery 4 inherited from its cousins over at Jaguar. In case you want to take charge there are shifting paddles behind the steering wheel too.
